"Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?"

A teen knew what he was going to do when they came for him.

A Haworth police officer gave chase to a suspect who fled from being arrested.

Police officers in Haworth chased a 16-year-old from Newark who was allegedly driving a stolen car and led them through a golf course early Saturday, authorities said. When he was apprehended, he was singing "Bad Boys" — the "Cops" TV show theme song — as he was placed in a police car. The incident, captured on dash-cam footage, was obtained by The Record through an Open Public Records Act request.

Sgt. Gianluca Ragone was patrolling by Haworth Avenue and Schraalenburgh Road at 3:05 a.m. when he noticed someone in a Mazda 3 driving erratically, said Detective Sgt. Justin Fox. Ragone got behind the suspect as he turned. The suspect then sped off.

The teen evaded police as he drove through a stop sign, authorities said. At one point, the suspect looked to be boxed in but instead drove onto the golf course at White Beeches Country Club. The suspect then drove through parts of Dumont, where he bailed out of the vehicle on Andover Avenue, authorities said. Ragone bolted from his car and caught the suspect a short time later.

Police later discovered that the teen was in possession of burglary tools, cash, debit cards and personal identification stolen from residents in Closter and Harrington Park, Fox said. It was later learned that the teen burglarized those two locations late Friday, police said.

“There’s been multiple thefts in the area,” Fox said. “The Northern Valley has been getting hit with a rash of burglaries, auto burglaries and vehicle thefts within the last month.”

Inside the car, which had been stolen from East Orange, the teen had ski masks, screwdrivers and gloves, Fox said. It was later learned in the investigation that two other men were also involved in the incident. They have not been caught.

The unnamed Newark teen faces charges including eluding, resisting arrest by flight, burglary and receiving stolen property, Fox said. The teen also faces charges in Closter and Harrington Park. He received 10 motor vehicle summonses.

He was in custody at the juvenile detention center in Teterboro, Fox said.
