Update: Dearan Bennett pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and was sentenced to five years probation.

An Uber driver allegedly sexually assaulted a passenger in Alpine and was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

A woman called 911 in June 2018 to report that she was sexually assaulted by her Uber driver, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. Dearan Bennett, 35, of Brooklyn, was charged with sexual assault about eight months later following an investigation, the Prosecutor's Office stated.

An Uber spokesperson condemned the alleged actions.

"What’s been described is horrible and something no one should ever go through," an Uber statement read. "We are working with law enforcement to fully support their investigation, and the driver’s access to the app has been removed.”

Bennett pleaded guilty to criminal sexual contact and was sentenced to five years probation in June.
