10-year-old boy riding his bike is struck, killed by NJ Transit bus in Bergenfield

UPDATE:Police ID Bergenfield boy killed while riding his bicycle

A 10-year-old Bergenfield boy riding his bicycle was struck and killed by an NJ Transit bus in the borough Monday, authorities said. 

Bergenfield police responded to the intersection of West Church Street and Veterans Plaza after receiving several 911 calls at about 3:55 p.m. The boy was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead. 

The bus was making a left turn onto Veterans Plaza when it struck the child as he entered the crosswalk on West Church Street, Bergenfield police said in a statement. 

The driver of the bus, a 58-year-old woman from Paterson, was also taken to the hospital for distress and has since been released, police said. The driver has not been charged or issued any summonses.
