No one was injured as the winds that approached 70 mph tore the roof off of Children's Day Nursery and Family Center on Jefferson Street at about 5 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Christopher Storzillo said.

The children were taken to Eastside Firehouse and reunited with their parents, Storzillo said. Storzillo did not know the full plan for the school after the damage but said it would likely be closed for a period of time.

Established more than 100 years ago in 1892, the Children's Day Nursery and Family Center aims to "improve the quality of life for at-risk children and their families through the seamless delivery of child and family system driven programs that respond to and respect diversity, culture, and unique needs," according to its Facebook page.
