Could an eight-week residency be next for the Boss?

Bruce Springsteen was born to run … on Broadway.

The Boss will be doing an eight-week residency at the Walter Kerr Theatre in the fall, probably starting in November, according to a report in the New York Post. He'd be doing a stripped down version of his usual stadium set, according to sources quoted by the Post.

Shore Fire Media, Springsteen's publicity representative, did not return a call to verify the story.

It's unclear, from The Post's story if whether Springsteen would be performing solo, or with a backup band of some kind.

"It would be very interesting to see what kind of format Bruce chose to go with, what kind of backing musicians, or whether it's solo," said Flynn McLean, a Springsteen aficionado from Kew Gardens, N.Y., who has written frequently for the Springsteen magazine Backstreets. "But it's too early to tell. There are too many question marks."

The 1000-seat Walter Kerr theater on West 48th Street has been empty since the musical "Amelie" closed last month. Some with access to Springsteen's circle have speculated that the Kerr show could be a trial balloon for a Springsteen-themed jukebox musical, along the lines of "Jersey Boys" or "Beautiful."

"I certainly hope it would accompany a new album," McLean said.
