Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites to open under one roof in Teaneck this summer

TEANECK — Workers are busy laying down carpet, painting walls and installing furniture in a 350-room hotel set to open in early August in the Glenpointe Complex.

The 14-story building includes three levels of parking and houses two hotel brands catering to different types of travelers. Homewood Suites, an extended-stay hotel designed for people staying five or more nights, will offer 160 rooms. Another 190 rooms are available in the Hampton Inn and Suites on the other side of the building.

“The carpeting needs to be put down, we need to patch some holes and just make that final turn, but we’re in the home stretch,” said Ryan Sanzari, chief operating officer of Alfred Sanzari Enterprises, the property’s developer. “These last few weeks are going to be all hands on deck as we do whatever we have to do to get the job done.”

Guests will enter the hotel from East Oakdene Avenue and check in at a central front desk before heading to their rooms on either side of the hotel.

By offering two brands in one building, the hotel can share employees and resources, said Kim Gagnon, general manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites and Homewood Suites.

“What’s nice is we’re attracting two different travelers looking for different things under the same roof,” she said. “The workout room and the pool are shared, but we are catering to two different demographics.”

Each Homewood Suites room has a kitchen with a stovetop, full-size refrigerator, dishware and pots and pans for extended-stay guests who want to cook. An outside patio with grills will be available for cookouts. Forty of the Hampton Inn rooms are suites with a separate living area from the bedroom sink, mini-refrigerator and microwave. 

Each brand will offer free breakfast. Homewood Suites will also have an evening social hour with complimentary food Monday through Thursday. A bar on the Homewood Suites side of the building will be accessible to all guests. 

The floor-to-ceiling windows of the glass façade building are insulated to block the highway noise coming off Routes 80 and 95 nearby. Many of the rooms offer views of the New York City skyline. 

Hallways and guest rooms are decorated in neutral grays, creams and navy accents.

On each floor, a hallway door and a subtle difference in the carpet’s pattern will let guests know they’ve walked to the other side. 

Sanzari originally aimed to build an office tower at the site, but those plans were scrapped four years ago because of a declining market for such space in the area. Both hotels are Hilton chains and will be operated by White Lodging, an Indiana-based company that also runs the Marriott.

The development will yield an estimated $1.5 million in taxes to the township, split between property taxes and hotel occupancy tax revenue, Sanzari said.

Rooms at the Homewood Suites will cost between $109 and $199 a night depending on the date and type of room. The Hampton Inn and Suites will run about $20 less, Gagnon said.

The hotel is taking reservations for October and will begin booking earlier dates as construction nears completion.

Despite their location less than one-tenth of a mile from the 350-room Marriott at the Glenpointe, Sanzari said he believes there will be a demand for rooms in the new hotels.

The new hotel will be able to handle overflow guests in town for corporate events and weddings at the Marriott. A bus stop just outside the hotel doors can take vacationers and business workers directly into New York City.

“As the gateway to the Glenpointe Complex and the township of Teaneck, this needed to be something special,” Sanzari said. “We knew we needed to design this building knowing we can look back 50 years from now and still be proud of what we built.”
