Here's "The Situation" — the "Jersey Shore" cast will be reuniting on Aug. 20.

The wildly popular reality show that depicted life of eight people living in Seaside Heights for the summer will be hosting a reunion on E!.

Nicole Polizzi, better known as Snooki, announced the reunion on her Twitter.

"Jersey Shore" aired on MTV from December 2009 until December 2012 and featured Polizzi, Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio, Jennifer "JWOWW" Farley, Samantha "Sammi Sweetheart" Giancola, Vinny Guadagnino, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Angelina Pivarnick. Pivarnick left the show after season two and Deena Nicole Cortese joined the cast at the beginning of season three.

Some people took issue with the fact that the show was not a representation of the real Jersey Shore and argued that a majority of the cast was from New York, not New Jersey. Cortese is from New Egypt and Giancola is from Hazlet.

Gov. Chris Christie said the show cast a negative light on the Garden State. Christie said if people wanted to know the real Jersey Shore, they were more than welcome to visit the state.

"Negative for New Jersey,'' Christie told ABC-TV's Jake Tapper in 2010 when asked about MTV's "Jersey Shore." "I mean ... what it does is it takes a bunch ... of New Yorkers, drops them at the Jersey Shore, and tries to make America feel like this is New Jersey."

In the throes of his criticisms of the show, Christie stopped a controversial $420,000 tax credit called the "Snooki-subsidy" for the first season of the hit MTV show. Christie said New Jersey taxpayers could not afford to support a program that blemished the state's reputation.

"I have no interest in policing the content of such projects," the governor said in a news release. "However, as chief executive I am duty-bound to ensure that taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the state and its citizens."

Social media reaction

Fans of the show were just as excited as Polizzi that the "Jersey Shore" cast was reuniting and took to Twitter to celebrate.
