The Denville Police Department is seeking the driver of a green sedan believed to have struck a pedestrian on Route 53 Wednesday morning.

At approximately 9:02 a.m. on Oct. 18, the Denville Police responded to the area of East Main Street (Route 53) underneath the Route 80 overpass, according to a police alert.

“We got a phone call of a woman that was struck by a car on Route 53 near Bloomfield Avenue. By the time we got there the woman who was struck was still there. The vehicle was gone,” said Capt. Keith Partin of the Denville Township Police Department.

Police said the driver "properly stopped and sought assistance,” but the individual who was struck refused assistance.

"What appeared to happen was the person that was driving the car stopped and was assured by the victim that she was OK. So she thought that it would be OK to go," Partin said. "It turns out that the victim did have some injuries and we would like to include information about the vehicle in the report."

Police said there was one eye witness to the car hitting the woman, but they would like more input.

“At this time, we are attempting to identify the vehicle and its driver in order to obtain a statement about what occurred and to properly document the incident,” according to the alert.
