Garth Brooks fans at a packed concert in Newark sat in the dark and then sang to themselves during a power outage that temporarily silenced the Prudential Center show tonight.

Garth Brooks performs at the 2016 Musicians Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in Nashville, Tenn.

The arena went dark during a warm-up act at around 8 p.m. before Brooks hit the stage, according to Twitter messages posted from inside the arena.

The messages showed the darkened arena, followed by gradual return to power. Twitter posts showed fans in the packed arena singing to themselves after some lights kicked on, but before Brooks’ band hit to the stage.

Andrew Wesley, a spokesman for Public Service Electric & Gas, which serves Newark, said at about 9:15 p.m. that PSE&G crews were working with the Prudential Center to figure out what happened.

"The cause is under investigation," he said.
