Scouting possible GM candidates for the New York Giants
The Giants will be looking to hire just their fourth general manager since 1979 after ownership fired Jerry Reese after 11 seasons on the job.
Giants co-owner and team president John Mara announced that former GM Ernie Accorsi will serve as consultant in their search while Kevin Abrams, an assistant under Reese, will be the interim GM for the remainder of the season.

Here is a look at some of the possible candidates who may interest the Giants:
John Dorsey
The former Kansas City Chiefs general manager was unceremoniously dumped this offseason in an apparent power play with Andy Reid, but he is well-respected throughout the league and is currently available.
Nick Caserio
The Patriots' director of player personnel might be content with staying in New England and waiting out Bill Belichick's reign, ultimately going from right hand man to big dog. But what if Caserio - with Belichick's blessing - likes the idea of going to a flagship franchise and possibly getting to bring a head coach of his choice - Josh McDaniels or Matt Patricia anyone? - with him to Big Blue?
Scott Pioli
Pioli is the son-in-law of Hall of Famer and Oradell native Bill Parcells, and he used to drive to Giants training camp in the mid-1980s as a student at Central Connecticut State. A McDaniels-Pioli pairing could make some sense as well.
Eliot Wolf
Considered one of the best young minds in football, Wolf is the director of football operations in Green Bay. The son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf has been a sought-after candidate in several searches, but he has stayed in Green Bay to this point.
Scott Fitterer
A bit of a darkhorse candidate, Fitterer is the Seahawks' co-director of player personnel. He was the director of college scouting when Seattle drafted players such as Russell Wilson, Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Bobby Wagner.
George Paton
The Vikings' assistant GM has been an asset in Minnesota and he's been involved in previous searches in which Accorsi has served as a consultant.
Kevin Abrams
He's been with the Giants for more than a decade and has the respect of the NFL community, specifically with his salary cap and contract work. He's also been willing to dip into the scouting part of the job, and perhaps a combination of Abrams and former Panthers GM and Giants front office asset Dave Gettleman turns out to be an appealing choice.
